Residual stresses induced by cold spraying

Thu, 04 July, 2019

An article co-authored by staff at TWI has been published in the Journal of Surface and Coatings Technology. Written by TWI’s Dibakor Boruah, Matthew Doré and Philip McNutt, in collaboration with Rutherford Appleton Laboratory STFC and Coventry University, the article evaluates residual stresses induced by cold spraying using neutron diffraction and the contour method.

A parametric study was performed on the influence of geometrical and process variables on residual stresses. To interpret the experimental results, an analytical method was used and different stress build-up mechanisms were discussed.
