Impact and Benefit for EU Competitiveness
- Increased valve reliability, over and above other valve manufacturers, when operating at high temperature in extreme environments through the optimum valve design that is based on experimental data and modelling/simulation taken under operating conditions. Estimated saving of €1.8million pa in maintenance labour costs.
- Reduced aero-engine maintenance costs due to reduced valve failure, replacement or repair.
- Reduced incidence of potential in-flight engine failure due to valve failure or poor performance.
- A further increase in aviation safety from its already high level thereby reinforcing the overall perception of safety of airtravel to the public.
- Reduced incidence of aircraft delays due to technical issues arising from valve/engine problems. Estimated saving of 1 hour delay per aircraft per month.
- Application of the projects technological developments and principles to other industries with similar kinds of vavle operational conditions, i.e. safety critical operation in high temperature, potention excessive vibration and high duty cycle encountered in industries such as e.g. nuclear power generation, turbine generators used in oil & gas production facilities [off-shore platforms and FPSOs] and large marine propulsion power plants.
- Opportunity to enter/expand into global aeroengine and as a second phase into the energy production sector and marine/ship propulsion industry sectors.
